INDRA RIOS-MOORE

It's the softer tones that distinguish Indra Rios-Moore and her band. Their music fascinates with its quiet flow, packed with a kaleidoscope of tonal nuances and movingly melodic solos. Filled with modulation and refined musical instinct, Indra Rios-Moore sings her lyrics in a warm, well-balanced soul voice.

"Heartland", her most recent album released in 2015, focuses on a journey and the complex relationships between life and death. Indra Rios-Moore's music is inspired by the events in her life and the people close to her. "They are tunes that helped me and gave me space to rest even in the middle of the whirlwind of life," the songstress explains. This turned into an eclectic set that explores her broad musical background with songs by Duke Ellington and Billie Holiday, Pink Floyd and David Bowie, a Spanish love song, Yoruba music, and movements from a requiem. It's difficult to describe them as cover versions. The songs are permanently bonded to the finely-crafted interpretations rendered in her band's intimate musical style. The album, incidentally, is produced by Grammy-winner Larry Klein.

Indra Rios-Moore grew up on Manhattan's Lower East Side. As a child, she was captivated by her mother's record collection. At age 13, she received a scholarship to Mannes College of Music, where she completed a wide-ranging vocal education. She married Danish jazz saxophonist Benjamin Trærup and went with him to Denmark, where they formed a trio with bassist Thomas Sejthen. The Danish Music Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album was presented for their debut album "Indra" in 2010 and for their second album "In Between" in 2012. The trio quickly has attracted a huge fan base in Scandinavia.
