The Movimentos Academy celebrates its anniversary in 2017: For the tenth time, the young dance class participants will work with a team of artists to develop a dance piece for the stage. This year's production is on the subject of freedom. The cooperation with the Staatstheater Braunschweig will also continue in the 2016/2017 season: In the "Movimentos Akademie tanzwärts" project, participants create a choreography for the stage during a five-week rehearsal period under the direction of Gregor Zöllig, head choreographer at Staatstheater Braunschweig. The two pieces will be premiered together on the opening weekend of the Movimentos Festival.

THE DANCE CLASS
The children and teens in the dance class have been working on their own production since last fall under the direction of choreographer Daniel Martins and dance instructor Sonja Böhme. An initial period of in-depth reflection on the subject of freedom gradually gives rise to ideas and emotions that crystallize into movements and finally suggest sequences. As well as this exploration of concepts and ideas, the 8- to 19-year-old Academy students also learn how a finished dance production is created – complete with costumes, make-up and music.
As in previous years, the technical production crews are made up of young graduates in the relevant specializations and experienced freelance artists. The creative collaboration between mentors and young artists enables them to learn from one another and supports the children and teens in their creative expression.

"MOVIMENTOS AKADEMIE TANZWÄRTS"
The "Movimentos Akademie tanzwärts" project is a continuation of the Movimentos Academy master class under the direction of Gregor Zöllig. Together with his team, twelve dancers aged 16 to 27 will develop a choreography over an intensive five-week rehearsal phase. During this time the participants are closely integrated into the daily operations of the Staatstheater Braunschweig. This gives them fascinating insights into the professional dance scene and how rehearsals are run at a theater. The 2016/2017 season sees the third iteration of the cooperation between the Autostadt in Wolfsburg and the Staatstheater Braunschweig.
