Movimentos Festival 2019

Dancefestival from 19 July to 25 August

The Autostadt is presenting the 17th edition of the Movimentos Festival from 19 July to 25 August 2019. Five international dance companies will be performing nine different choreographies, including one world premiere, a European premiere, and six German premieres. Audiences can also look forward to seeing young dancers from the Movimentos Academy performing four different choreographies. In its 17th year, the Autostadt Movimentos Festival will stage its dance performances for the first time in the new "Hafen 1" venue. This new building on the harbour basin was necessary due to the conversion of the Volkswagen KraftWerk power plant with efficient gas turbines. With the "Hafen 1" event location, the Autostadt is creating a new entrepreneurial mainstay for future conferences. "Hafen 1" will be officially opened to the public on 19 July when the 17th Movimentos Festival kicks off with a world premiere by Canadian star choreographer Édouard Lock.

Five international dance companies will perform at the 17th Movimentos Festival from July 19 to August 25. Two of Brazil's leading dance ensembles, the São Paulo Dance Company and the Companhia de Dança Deborah Colker will be appearing in 2019 along with Les Ballet Jazz de Montréal in a tribute to musician and painter Leonard Cohen. On stage for the first time in Germany, the L.A. Dance Company will perform three works by Benjamin Millepied. Other performances include "The Thread", a joint international production created by British choreographer Russell Maliphant with Greek musician and Oscar winner Vangelis. Young dancers from the Movimentos Academy will perform four different choreographies at the new "Hafen 1" event location.
